Opening titles identify Mrs. L. L. Nicholson of Oakland as that week’s winner of the Tribune-American “Dream Picture.” Her contest entry becomes a short story about a woman whose baby disappears, sending her on an increasingly far-reaching search.

She travels by automobile through busy city streets, asks others for help, and rows alone across San Francisco Bay before continuing through waterfront and industrial areas. Men handling packages and a large basket become part of the search, and she eventually recovers the missing child beside an automobile. The dream closes with the woman kissing and holding the baby.
