Story Without End documents the postwar expansion of telephone service through advances in microwave radio transmission, transistors, switching, and construction. It follows the challenges of manufacturing new equipment, installing poles and buried cables, and using power lines as telephone pathways. The film also presents crossbar switching and direct long-distance dialing as improvements achieved without interrupting existing service.
