A peg-legged pirate and his parrot sing and trade jokes aboard a sailing ship before a sighted vessel sets off a comic search for treasure. A boy and girl use disguises and a decoy to evade the pirates, leading to slapstick encounters with sharks, shipboard equipment, and a large seabird. After the children reach a tropical island and find a fortune, the pirates pursue them again.

A modern automobile provides the children with a way to escape and return home, even carrying them across rough water in the closing sequence. Sailors sing about home and Nancy Lee, and one child declares that they have “fixed those pirates.” By making the car the solution when the children wonder how to get home, the 1938 cartoon turns its treasure-island adventure into a Chevrolet advertisement.
