Onbekende film legerparade

19209 min 51 sec63 shots

Opening words describe the Netherlands as cautious and neutral but prepared to defend itself, while a military parade and sailors working high in a ship’s rigging show the armed forces. Peace follows military readiness as viewers enter a monumental building identified as the seat of an international court. Canal boats carry people, livestock, and even a funeral procession through a quiet village, while castles, churchgoing, orchard work, and regional dress show rural customs and labor.

Visits to Zeeland, Marken, and Volendam include families in local clothing, fishing communities, and domestic work beside canals and streets. Scheveningen appears as a busy seaside resort centered on its entertainment venue.

The final half describes sport and physical culture as important parts of Dutch life. Crowds gather for stadium events and a university rowing contest, while swimmers, sailors, tennis players, and skaters compete in other settings. A busy street filled with cyclists closes this survey of national life.
