Nieuwe stormramp in den Achterhoek

19276 min 43 sec39 shots

This 1927 silent film records the aftermath of a whirlwind that struck Neede in the Achterhoek. Opening intertitles also name Beltrum and Lichtenvoorde as badly affected and appeal to Dutch viewers for help. Streets and yards are buried under bricks, timber, roofing, and fallen trees, while homes, workshops, and other buildings stand roofless or partly collapsed. Residents and workers cross the wreckage, inspect damaged structures, and climb among broken roof frames.

A locomotive surrounded by debris precedes an intertitle reporting that a 12-year-old girl was thrown under a train and killed. Inside torn-open homes, furniture and household goods remain among fallen masonry; another intertitle describes salvaged belongings as what a brother could still save. Wide views of shattered houses, bare rafters, leaning poles, and extensive rubble convey the storm’s impact on everyday life.
