Corvair in Action, The

19606 min 28 sec39 shots

This 1960 promotional film shows Chevrolet Corvair sedans on paved roads, a racetrack, rough ground, and water-covered routes to demonstrate the compact car’s performance. The film says Chevrolet engineers repeatedly tested the Corvair and credits its suspension and Turbo-Air engine with power, traction, stability, maneuverability, and durability. At Lime Rock raceway in Connecticut, drivers corner at speed, follow tight patterns, and cross uneven surfaces while the car’s body remains relatively level.

Further demonstrations focus on braking, including a stop on pavement coated with slippery foam, and the film compares that foam to material used for emergency aircraft landings. Crash tests subject Corvairs to repeated impacts, and locked wheels force one car to roll over after an earlier attempt fails. The closing message promotes the Corvair as a rugged, reliable compact car whose handling, traction, braking, and power have been proved through testing.
