Through hospital scenes and stylized animation, a physician explains that injuries called accidents often have identifiable physical, emotional, or physiological causes. He recalls Fred Taylor, who panics over his sick daughter, falls down a staircase, and breaks his leg, then describes workshop injuries associated with poor eyesight or anger. Further examples connect accident risk with impaired hearing, disease, aging, medication, alcohol, overeating, and emotional distress.

The physician calls for systematic research into accident prevention while also examining hazards in his own life. He acknowledges unsafe driving, the absence of seat belts, overloaded household wiring, poorly secured medicines, and the decision to let Jimmy use the car despite missing driver training and driving too fast. The film ends with a repeated hospital call for Dr. Marvin to report to surgery, immediately after the concern about Jimmy and the car.
