This 1958 film describes the speed and comfort promised by transatlantic travel aboard Pan American’s Boeing 707, comparing a six-and-a-half-hour New York-to-London trip with much longer crossings by ship and earlier aircraft. Preparations for jet service include a 1954 simulated “paper flight,” later simulations and prototype flights, and a model of a circular terminal under construction at Idlewild Airport. The simulations gathered operational and weather information for aircraft expected to cruise above most weather at 30,000 to 40,000 feet.

Ground crews load cargo, mail, luggage, and documents before the aircraft takes off without an engine warm-up. During the depicted journey, the captain reports an altitude of 35,000 feet, an airspeed of 575 miles per hour, and a tailwind that raises the ground speed to about 658 miles per hour. Cabin scenes show passengers talking, relaxing, and eating meals as the film emphasizes spacious seating, adjustable lighting, reduced noise, and freedom from vibration.

After arrival, views of Trooping the Colour represent London, while signs, cafés, and drinks evoke a visit to Paris, which the film says is seven hours from New York. The closing message predicts that faster flights will make overseas travel available to millions and allow easier contact among people around the world.
